We love to measure our progress or growth in a variety of different areas, physical growth being just one of them. We relish those marks and we cherish the ritual of taking that measurement. My kids love it so much that they will sometimes try to measure themselves.

Should I Date a Guy Who’s Younger Than Me?
As many of you twentysomethings and thirtysomethings and probably even older know, the Church has been lacking in providing the youth with solid Catechesis for a while now. My boyfriend falls into this category. He grew up going to church and he knows his faith is important, but he was never given the resources to grow in his understanding. I, on the other hand, was incredibly blessed in my youth. God placed a number of people in my life at the right time to help me fan the flames and grow in spiritual maturity.
The first date I went on with my wife when we were in college was great. We went to a wonderful restaurant, walked in and out of art galleries in downtown Charleston, and finished it off by watching the sunset on a dock in the harbor. We were married just six months after our engagement I highly recommend this , and then began a life of ups and downs, filed with the great joy that is found in marrying a wonderful Christ-centered woman Prov Not every moment of marriage is the same as your first date, not every evening is watching the sunset in the harbor.

Get this book! Page Disciplines of a Godly Man, Crossway Books, , p. What you want to be careful of is looking around at people in the church service and seeing people really into it — on their knees, people singing with glazed-over eyes, people expressing a lot of emotion, people weeping — and drawing the conclusion that because people are responding emotionally that they have a deeper connection with God or a more mature faith than the person who is not reacting emotionally at all.
This is a profound error… Emotional response is not in any sense a Scriptural measure of spiritual maturity. Do you know what the measure of spiritual maturity is in the Scriptures? It is not the display of spiritual emotion, or even the display of spiritual gifts, but the manifestation of spiritual fruit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness, self-control.
When you find people like that, make sure they know who Jesus is.

Should a Christian date someone who is less spiritually mature? Is dating someone on a different spiritual level a recipe for disaster? While dating a non-Christian is a more obvious danger to avoid, dating a new believer will need a lot more discernment. I think it depends on what you mean when you say you are more spiritually mature than the person you are dating. The first way some people define spiritual maturity is by how long someone has been a Christian.
This is a false definition in my opinion.
There are four ways someone entering a dating relationship can do this. Seeking God’s kingdom first leads to spiritual maturity, which leads to discernment.
He goes out a boy and comes back a man. He goes out immature, he comes back mature and strong, gracious, and a worker and willing to serve. He goes back to college in most cases and there he will make higher grades than he ever made before, because he has purpose in his life. Personal conduct is the only true measurement of maturity. Adult classification, when it pertains to behavior, does not come with age, wrinkles, or gray hair. What is spiritual leadership? This is a question about which there has been a great deal of confusion among Christians. Scripture teaches that we are to date and marry men who are spiritual leaders 1 Cor. Oftentimes Christians fail to view them as two equally important aspects of a dating relationship, aspects that hold one another in a complementary tension. This mentality is not only unscriptural, but it can result in several negative consequences. Second, this mentality can lead to a marital dynamic in which the husband is significantly more mature than the wife.
Even if she is not noticeably immature, she may not be as radically committed to know and serve God. The problem with this way of viewing Christian marriage is that it fulfills one Scriptural teaching while ignoring the other—yes, the man is leading spiritually, but are the two equally yoked? Not necessarily. Spiritual leadership does not necessarily mean that the husband is significantly more mature than his wife.
If he is, then the two are not really equally yoked. While he may be the spiritual leader in the relationship, it is likely that he will grow less because he is not married to a woman who has the capacity to push him the way he needs. That said, spiritual leadership does not mean that the husband spiritually dominates his wife. On the contrary, it simply means that the man works harder.
